What if I don’t have any talent or strengths?

Based on Don Clifton’s strength-based approach to management and positive psychology, this assessment and development journey as part of our work will help to ultimately empower you.

Everyone has some talents and strength, the issue is we often don’t know about it and therefor, leave its development to coincidences. At Boldhead, we focus on 90% on strength to achieve excellence in what you are doing best already. Not only will you be better than others, it is incredibly satisfying to work in what we do best.

Learning about your talents and strengths will increase self-confidence and drive leading to better performance.

Using a strength-based approach in organizations leads according to research to:

  • 6 x more engagement
  • 3 x more life quality
  • 7.8% more productivity in their function
  • 6 x more likely to execute excellently

I am who I am. Why should I go for personal development?

No, first we have to know who we truly are, then we have to become who we are (being) in order to be how we are (doing).

The way we are raised has an impact on who we are becoming in our early years. Our society, our environment and the people that cross our life are important to our growth; and sometimes detrimental without us noticing. We develop coping strategies. Usually, we think we are our coping strategies. But our true SELF is different. We are not what we feel, what we think, what we do, how we behave.

Why should I plan my life?

We usually spend more time planning our holidays than being intentional about our relationships and creating the life we want to live. And we do not learn ‘living’ or ‘happiness’ or ‘self-confidence’ or ‘leadership’ nor ‘self-mastery’ at school or elsewhere. It is usually passed down from generation to generation. The rest is done by the society. That we means we are adopting our life to our surrounding. We might sometimes be aggressive or rebellious against the life out there or hiding and depress our feelings to avoid the life out there. But all this, is just unskilful behaviour that we were taught. It is ’normal’.

Knowing is not doing?

If they understand, they will do’ is rarely the case. ‘If the understanding equals doing equation were accurate, everyone who understood that they should go on a healthy diet and work out would be in great shape’ (Marshall Goldsmith)

What is coaching?

Here are some definitions:

Professional Coaching is an ongoing professional relationship that helps people produce extraordinary results in their lives, careers, businesses or organizations. Through the process of coaching, clients deepen their learning, improve their performance, and enhance their quality of life.

In each meeting, the client chooses the focus of conversation, while the coach listens and contributes observations and questions. This interaction creates clarity and moves the client into action. Coaching accelerates the client’s progress by providing greater focus and awareness of choice. Coaching concentrates on where clients are now and what they are willing to do to get where they want to be in the future. ICF member coaches and ICF credentialed coaches recognize that results are a matter of the client’s intentions, choices and actions, supported by the coach’s efforts and application of the coaching process

How to find a coach?

  • Do you want to have face to face meetings? Then you will need someone in your area. Internet communication works fine and has no disadvantages! What is your preference?
  • Have a free 30min chemistry session with your potential coach.
  • Meet 3 coaches to get a clearer picture of the different styles and fields of experiences.
  • What area do you need a specialist in?
  • Make sure your coach has a proper certification from a known and well reputed institution!

Often, the more you pay the more you get.

There is a growing number of coaches in training that are looking for potential coachees for a small fee.

Check in your circle of friends or company if someone has good recommendations. Or check on the internet.

Check out the ICF coaches’ directory for your area.

If you want to get coaching from the best: Apply at Robin Sharma, Anthony Robbins and/or Marshall Goldsmith to get personal one-on-one coaching. They usually accept 5 Clients per year.

What if I want to stop coaching before the end of the agreed duration?

You can stop or pause your coaching at anytime with no questions asked. However, should I feel that you are close to a breakthrough then I will recommend continuing to ensure that you get the optimal result.

What if we come to point of deep psychological issues or areas you are not specialized in?

As soon as one of us realizes, that our relationship does not serve you anymore OR that your coach is not specialized or qualified in the arising issue we need to evaluate if stopping the sessions or working with a specialist in parallel is the right approach.

Is there a risk in coaching?

Yes, there is!

Though it is the best method to help in personal growth, there are things to consider:

  • Make sure your coach is qualified.
  • You might think you have only one issue to resolve and realize after a few sessions that there is a bit more to work on.
  • Coaching creates clarity. You may want to open doors you shut down to cope with life. These issues may keep you from living the life you would like to live.
  • What you know you know! So, you are likely to be more willing to open these doors!
  • Ultimately, you will bring yourself to the next level.
  • If you experience bad coaching and your coach comes from a co-dependant background, some clients may develop a dependency to their coach.
